Do You Plan or Just Prepare Before a Game?

Many players train hard, focusing only on preparation. But preparation is often reactive—we work on things we’re concerned about or struggling with. Planning, on the other hand, is proactive—it considers strengths, match conditions, and strategies for success.

For example:
✅ A batsman who only prepares may only focus on fixing a weakness (e.g., playing against swing). But a batsman who plans visualizes their innings, sets scoring zones, and strategizes their approach to different bowlers.
✅ A bowler who only prepares might only focus on their stock delivery. But a bowler who plans thinks about field settings, variations, and how to exploit batters’ weaknesses.

While matches are unpredictable, planning helps manage controllables—giving you confidence before and during the game. Once you step on the field, you can adjust to the situation rather than just reacting under pressure.

So, do you just prepare, or do you also plan?
